The Patz 350, 620 and 950 are tractor-drawn vertical feed mixers that batch and deliver a total mixed ration from one tub. The 350 runs a single screw on a 65 hp tractor and suits a dairy, small feedlot, or backgrounding operation. The 620 and 950 run twin screws and are sized for feedlots putting out 7.2 to 11 tonnes of ration a batch.

What is a vertical feed mixer
A vertical feed mixer is a tub with one or more upright screws that lift feed from the floor, let it fall, and blend it into a total mixed ration (TMR). It handles round bales, silage, grain and supplements in one batch. A tractor-drawn model is towed and driven off the PTO, with scales so you weigh each ingredient in.
How the three Patz sizes compare
The difference between the three models is tub capacity, screw count and the tractor in front. The 350 heaps 11.3 m³ with one screw and needs 65 PTO hp. The 620 heaps 20.3 m³ with two screws and needs 85 PTO hp. The 950 heaps 31.1 m³ with two screws and needs 145 PTO hp. All three capacities come with standard feedout elevator fitted, a 3m custom elevator can be supplied and fitted by DOM on the 350 and 620.
Maximum ration load follows the same step: 4 tonnes on the 350, 7.2 tonnes on the 620, 11 tonnes on the 950. Those are the figures to size your batch against, not the tub volume, because a heavy grain ration reaches the load rating before it fills the tub.
Patz 350: single screw, 11.3 m³, 65 hp
The Patz 350 is the mixer for an operation with one mid-sized tractor and a ration that changes through the year. One Tru Taper screw with dual kicker turns in a tub 4.6 m long and 2.6 m wide, and you tow it on a single axle at PTO speed of 540 rpm. It heaps 11.3 m³ and carries up to 4 tonnes of ration a batch.
Australian units come with Digi-Star scales as standard and a 3 m elevator option, so you fill feeder bins and a bunk from the same load. Up to seven knives handle round bales.
Patz 620: twin screw, 20.3 m³, 85 hp
The Patz 620 is the step up to two screws for a small to medium feedlot or a dairy feeding twice a day. Two Tru Taper screws in a 7.3 m tub heap 20.3 m³ and carry 7.2 tonnes a batch behind a tractor with 80hp PTO. It sits on a dual axle with four 285/70R19.5 tyres at PTO speed of 1000 rpm, with a rear commodity door 762 mm high and 991 mm wide and up to 14 knives across both screws. Paired with DOM's 3 m elevator it feeds bins and bunk in one pass.
Patz 950: twin screw, 31.1 m³ for feedlots
The Patz 950 is the feedlot mixer. Two Tru Taper screws in an 8.4 m tub heap 31.1 m³ and carry 11 tonnes a batch behind a 145 PTO hp tractor, with Patz's patented Vortex mixing action moving the ration end to end. The 2026 build is the 2400 Series III: 8,677 kg empty, 19,450 kg gross, a four-point scale system, eight 245/70R19.5 tyres on a split dual or tandem walking beam, and a choice of two-speed manual or T2/T3 Autoshift transmission. The 950XH build takes the sidewalls from 6 mm to 9 mm and the screw flighting from 16 mm to 19 mm for high-hay and high-grain rations, and weighs 9,554 kg empty.
How big a feed mixer do you need
Divide the mixer's maximum ration load by your as-fed feed per head per feed. That gives head fed per batch. Multiply by the batches you can run in the feeding window and you have the herd size the mixer covers.
Worked on DOM's published load figures with an as-fed ration of 25 kg a head a day, fed once: the 350 covers about 160 head a batch, the 620 about 290, and the 950 about 440. Feed twice a day and each mixer covers roughly double. Your nutritionist's as-fed figure replaces the 25 kg, and the arithmetic stays the same.
Size to the ration you will feed in three years, not the one you feed now. A mixer running at 70 to 80 percent of its load rating mixes cleaner and wears slower than one running full every batch.
How much tractor does a feed mixer need
DOM's minimums are 65 PTO hp for the 350, 85 PTO hp for the 620 and 145 PTO hp for the 950. Those are continuous-run figures. Starting a full tub of round bales from rest needs more, which is why the 620 and 950 offer a two-speed gearbox: you start in low, shift up once the mix is moving, and take the torque spike off the tractor.
Single screw or twin screw
A single screw mixes well up to about 12 m³ and keeps the tractor requirement, tub length and price down. Past that, a second screw keeps the mix moving end to end in a longer tub, which is what the patented baffles in the 620 and 950 are shaped for. If your batch is under 4 tonnes, the single-screw 350 does the job. If it is over 4 tonnes, or you process a lot of round bales, twin screw. All three run Patz Tru Taper screws; the twin-screw tubs add the patented Vortex mixing action.

The 350 suits dairies to a few hundred milkers, small feedlots, backgrounders and any operation feeding once a day off a 65 to 100 hp tractor. The 620 suits a small to medium feedlot or a dairy feeding twice a day on a mixed ration. The 950 is for commercial feedlots batching 10 tonnes at a time, or compost operations processing green waste and litter.
